Accreditation for 1-Person Counseling Services
IACS accreditation is available to counseling services with 1 clinician!
As of Fall 2026, college counseling services with one (1) full-time equivalent (FTE)* clinical staff are eligible for IACS accreditation.
For all counseling centers regardless of size, compliance with IACS staffing-related standards are evaluated based on multiple factors, such as overall clinical volume, utilization trends unique to the school (such as a large part-time or commuter population), and other variables.
One-FTE centers are not exempt from meeting IACS standards. They must have a system in place to assure access to services in cases of emergencies, to maintain confidentiality, and ensure safety for staff and clients that is appropriate for their environment.
Standard V.C. has been amended to reflect this change. Please refer to the Standards document for detals.
* IACS defines an FTE as the equivalent of one full-time clinical position, excluding clerical support staff and trainees (such as Pre-Doctoral Interns, Post-Doctoral Residents, Externs, Interns, Graduate Assistants, etc.). It may be comprised of two or more part-time staff. The counseling service may or may not also employ other non-clinical staff, such as front desk/admin support.
